Music for Saint CeciliaTo celebrate the feast day of St Cecilia (patron saint of music) Fiori present the first ever public performance of Quirino Colombani’s Oratorio di Santa Cecilia, written for Rome in 1701.
St Cecilia has been the Patron Saint of Music since the 16th century and over the years many composers have feted her (including Henry Purcell and Benjamin Britten). This November we celebrate her Feast Day with a performance by Fiori Musicali of Colombani’s Oratorio di Santa Cecilia . This will be the first ever professional public performance of this amazing music, which has lain hidden away in manuscripts for centuries.
The concert takes place on her Saint’s Day (Saturday 22 November) in St Mary the Virgin Church, Great Brington – where the ancestors of the Spencer family lie.
An unique opportunity to discover completely new music from the turn of the 18th century, composed by a skilled and successful Roman composer (albeit little known today) who worked for Prince Ruspoli and the d’Este family.
