For July Fiori are going international. Following our exciting Wolfhampcote concert, where we explored music written way back in the 1450s (Du Fay’s impressive Missa se la face ay pale, with the Fiori Choir accompanied by a wonderful array of early renaissance instruments), July finds Fiori on rather different territory, as we leap forward several centuries to the music of JS Bach and Boccherini.
On 26 July we shall be teaming up with two wonderful guests from the continent, who will be joining us for our popular Castle Ashby Concert. Fiori’s much loved baroque violinist Kerstin Linder-Dewan flies in from Berlin to perform a Bach violin concerto (as well as some fascinating music by the French baroque composer Corrette). And our special guest artist is distinguished Swiss guitarist CHRISTOPH DENOTH.
Renowned for his critically acclaimed recording of Dowland, Mister Dowland’s Midnight, Denoth is described by the critics as ‘a master of his instrument – he performed with great technical skill, spinning out well-shaped melodic lines with crystal clear, often thrilling, accompaniments’. The New York Concert Review commented, ‘ He drew from his instrument so many different colors that one often thought there was more than one guitarist on stage.’
Denoth has performed for the BBC, recorded with the London Symphony Orchestra, played with the English Chamber Orchestra and at many key venues, including the Berlin Philharmonie, Wigmore Hall, as well as the Mozarteum in Salzburg and Carnegie Hall. His concert tours have taken him to more than 30 countries and he is Professor and artist in residence at the Royal Academy of Music. So you can imagine Fiori are really honoured to be sharing the platform with this exceptional musician in the idyllic church at Castle Ashby, where he will be performing Vivaldi and Boccherini, alongside charismatic violinist Kerstin Linder-Dewan and the Fiori Musicali Chamber Ensemble.
Summer would just not be complete without a Fiori concert at Castle Ashby! You can even bring a picnic to enjoy Glyndebourne-style before the performance.
